China Ship Scientific Research Center is a ship and ocean engineering research institute possessing more than 500 research engineers and 22 large-scaled test facilities, mainly engaged in the research and consultation of ship hydrodynamic performance, propulsion, high performance ships, underwater engineering, vibration and noise reduction, underwater structure, marine and offshore structures. Founded in 1965.

Dalian University of Technology has a shipbuilding research center and also coastal and offshore engineering laboratory.

The Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering has been established as the Naval Engineering Department in 1953, it is one of the key departments of Harbin Military Engineering Institute.

Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST) The School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering was established in 1959.

Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC) first tank has established in 1953.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) as one of the higher education institutions which has ship hydrodynamic laboratory.

Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute (SSSRI) was founded in 1962. It's R&D effort covers development of new type ships, transportation technology, marine engine control systems, navigation safety, telecommunications, environment engineering, automation of industry process, intelligent traffic engineering, port facilities and energy-saving technology etc.

The School of Civil Engineering of Tianjin University was founded in 1997, including Department of Naval and Ocean Engineering.

Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) was founded on 2000 from the former Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan Transportation University and Wuhan Automotive Polytechnic University. The former Wuhan Transportation University mainly originated from National Maritime Vocational School in 1946.
