FFB

CFD for Ship Resistance | RANS-URANS | LES-DES | FEM

The FrontFlow/blue (FFB) is a finite element method solver for incompressible turbulent flows by LES and RANS with second-order accuracy in terms both of time and space. Standard Smagorinsky model (SSM) and dynamic Smagorinsky model (DSM) are implemented for the SGS model, and SA model is implemented for RANS.

Crank-Nicolson method and fractional step (FS) method are implemented to solve the momentum equations and the pressure Poisson equation, respectively. FFB runs in massively parallel by the domain decomposition method.

FieldView

FieldView is a tool for CFD analysts and CFD users performing analyses with mixed physics such as fluid-structure interaction (FSI), aeroacoustics, or electromagnetics. FieldView reads many common CFD data formats including solver formats. Many solvers also provide an export to FieldView’s (FV-UNS) file format.

Finflo

General Purpose CFD | RANS-URANS | FVM

Finflo is a Navier-Stokes solver capable of handling incompressible and compressible flow, i.e. subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows. The code is based on a structured multiblock grid topology. The Reynolds-averaged thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved by a Finite-Volume method.

Special Purpose CFD | Thin Ship Theory

Free Internet Rowing Model (FIRM) is a research code. FIRM evolved from an initial attempt at a reasonably comprehensive rowing model named “Michlet Rowing”.

In its present form the model tries to fill a need for a useful tool that lies somewhere between a full 3D model with CFD calculations of the complex flow fields, and simpler models that treat the rowers’ bodies as point masses and that use empirical approximations for the drag on the boat and rowers.

CFD for Ship Resistance | Thin Ship Theory

Flotilla is a computer workbench that can be used for investigations into some aspects of ship hydrodynamics. Flotilla is not suitable for many classes of hulls. It cannot handle planing hulls or very stubby vessels like tugboats. However, it provides very acceptable predictions for hulls with L/B as low as 5 when the hull has a transom stern.
